Invisalign® vs. Traditional Braces
Metal brackets and wires are used in traditional braces to straighten teeth. Invisalign® relies on clear plastic aligners that fit over your teeth. Invisalign® aligners are virtually invisible and can be removed for eating, drinking, and brushing your teeth.
Invisalign® is more comfortable than traditional braces. Because Invisalign® aligners are smooth, they won’t rub against the inside of your mouth the way metal brackets and wires do. The plastic is also designed to hold your mouth’s shape, so you don’t have to worry about irritation or pain.
How Does Invisalign® Work?
While traditional metal braces use brackets and wires to move your teeth, Invisalign® uses clear, virtually invisible plastic aligners. Each aligner is custom-made to fit over your teeth and is designed to gradually move your teeth into position.
You wear each tray for about two weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move, little by little, week by week until they have straightened to the position your doctor has prescribed.
During your treatment, you’ll also visit our office for regular checkups, usually only every six weeks or so. At these visits to our office, your doctor will monitor your progress and make any necessary changes to your treatment. Invisalign® is an invisible braces system, so no one needs to know you’re straightening your teeth.

Patients who have metal braces may experience chafing or irritation from the wires and brackets. Invisalign® aligners are comfortable to wear with no irritation or mouth sores.
